What is sovereign AI?
Sovereign AI means the data stays yours and the model runs where you say. The model, the data and the server all belong to you rather than to a vendor, so no third party can switch the system off, change what it costs, or be asked to hand over what you ran through it.
How is sovereign AI different from a cloud AI service?
A cloud service holds the model and processes your data on its own machines under its own terms. With sovereign AI you hold both. The practical difference shows up at renewal time and in an audit: you are not renting the thing your business now depends on.
Does sovereign AI mean running everything on our own servers?
No. It is a scale, not a switch. You can run inside your own cloud account, on hardware you own, or on the device itself. Each step gives you more control and more to look after, and which one is right is a business decision rather than a technical one.
Why does data sovereignty matter for regulated industries?
Because the obligation is yours, not your vendor’s. A bank, a hospital or a law firm answers for its clients’ data wherever it ends up, and a promise in a supplier contract is not the same as the data never leaving. Sovereignty makes the answer checkable.
