- AI Abundance Theory, introduced by Andreessen Horowitz, highlights how AI will impact creativity, relationships, medicine, and careers, especially for programmers. Tan underscored that AI is not just a tool but a transformative force that will reshape multiple facets of society.
- Tan also explored the trust issues that continue to challenge AI adoption, such as hallucinations, explainability, data privacy, governance, and job security. These issues, he argued, need to be resolved for AI to fully integrate into the fabric of society.
- Building Trust through Alignment: According to Tan, responsible AI is about “doing the right thing that aligns with human values and socioeconomics.” He noted that while countries like the US, EU, and Japan have introduced regulations around AI, Southeast Asia, and particularly the Philippines, is still in the early stages of developing a regulatory framework. However, significant progress has been made with the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) AI Strategy Roadmap 2.0 and the launch of the Center for AI Research in July 2023, as well as the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) Ethical and Trustworthy Use of AI in Government initiative.
- Tan highlighted that the Philippines is actively pushing for an ASEAN AI Regulatory Framework, which is a promising step toward aligning the region with global AI governance standards.
